How to Load a Vocal Preset in FL Studio: Mixer Setup
Share
Setup Guide · FL Studio
To load a vocal preset saved as a Mixer track state, select a vocal Mixer track and use File > Open mixer track state from its menu. Then check that your vocal audio reaches that track. That route is not right for every preset file, so first check what your download contains.
The chain can be loaded correctly and still do nothing if your vocal is routed to a different Mixer track.

Check that the product is made for FL Studio and read which edition, plugins or version it needs. If the product includes an installation guide, use that as the source of truth for its file format and setup steps.
- An .fst file can hold a generator or effect preset, so the extension alone does not prove that it is a complete vocal chain. Check how the creator says to load it. See Image-Line's FST file explanation.
- Make sure you know where the download was saved and what the guide says to open.
2 Set up a vocal track in the Mixer
Choose a Mixer track for the vocal and confirm the correct audio input is selected before recording. Image-Line's official manual explains how audio recording and mixer routing work in FL Studio.
- Read the FL Studio audio-recording guide.
- Make a short test recording and listen back before recording the full take.
3 Load a Mixer track state
If the included guide identifies your preset as a Mixer track state, use this route:
- Save a copy of your project before changing an existing chain.
- Select an unused Mixer track for the vocal. Do not select the Master, where processing affects the full mix.
- Open that track's menu and choose File > Open mixer track state, then select the supplied state file.
- Check the loaded effects and any missing-plugin messages before playing the vocal.
The official Mixer menu reference describes this command. If your download is a plugin preset or a project template instead, follow that file's loading instructions rather than forcing it through this menu.
Loaded, but no change to the vocal?
Play the vocal and check whether the intended Mixer track's meter moves. If not, check the vocal channel's Mixer assignment. A visible effects chain does not mean the audio is passing through it. See Image-Line's Mixer routing explanation.
Test before recording
Play a short vocal through the setup. Listen for missing effects, clipping or a result that does not suit your beat. Keep a clean copy and adjust the processing to your recording.
4 Make small changes for your voice
A preset is a starting point, not a promise that every voice will sound the same. Compare the processed vocal with the original and listen with the instrumental. Change only what you can hear needs attention.
If the chain includes pitch correction, check its key and scale for your song. The free BPM and key finder can suggest the instrumental's key, but confirm the result by ear. A preset cannot know the key of every beat you load.
