How to Use Auto-Tune in Logic Pro: Step by Step
Searching for Auto-Tune in Logic Pro? There are two different things to know. Auto-Tune is a product from Antares, while Logic Pro includes its own effect called Pitch Correction. This guide shows you how to use Logic's built-in option on a vocal.
How to use pitch correction in Logic Pro
1. Start with a clean vocal recording
Pitch correction works best on a single vocal line. Record in a quiet space, keep the input level under control and choose the strongest take before adding effects. It can improve tuning, but it cannot replace a clear recording or a convincing performance.
2. Add Logic's Pitch Correction effect
- Select your vocal track.
- Open an empty Audio FX slot.
- Choose Pitch > Pitch Correction.
Apple describes this effect as a tool for correcting the pitch of incoming audio. For detailed note-by-note edits, Logic also has Flex Pitch.
3. Set the correct root and scale
Choose the root note and scale that match your instrumental. This is the most important setup step. If the key is wrong, the effect can pull your vocal towards notes that do not fit the song. Do not guess if you can check the key with the producer or the beat information.
4. Adjust the response
The Response control determines how quickly the vocal moves towards the corrected pitch. A quicker response creates a more noticeable tuned sound. A slower response can keep more of the original movement. There is no setting that works for every voice, so adjust it while listening to the full track.
5. Compare the tuned and original vocal
Switch the effect on and off at the same listening level. Check whether the tuning supports the performance without making words or note transitions sound distracting. Moderate correction usually sounds more natural. Stronger correction can be a creative choice.
