Vocals Too Quiet in Logic Pro? Here's the Fix
5 min read · Mixing Tips
Your vocal disappears in the mix, sounds thin, or is just too quiet in Logic Pro — this is one of the most common problems producers face. The good news: there are multiple fixes, and this guide covers all of them.
A quiet vocal is almost always a mix problem, not a recording problem. The solution is in your plugin chain.
— nameonthebeat.com1 Check your recording level
A recording level that's too low is the most common cause.
- Open your vocal region and check the waveform — is it very small?
- Use Gain (in Audio FX) to boost the level
- Aim for an RMS level of -18 dB to -14 dB before mixing
2 Add compression
Compression makes quiet parts louder and loud parts quieter — for a consistent vocal.
- Add the Compressor to your vocal track
- Use a ratio of 4:1 to 8:1
- Set the threshold so you see 6-10 dB of gain reduction
- Raise the Output Gain to compensate for the volume loss
3 Use an Exciter or Saturation
Saturation adds harmonics that make your vocal thicker and more present.
- Add subtle saturation using Logic's built-in plugins
- Keep it subtle — you want warmth, not distortion
Did you know?
Many professional producers use parallel compression: duplicate the vocal, compress it heavily, and blend it back in quietly. This adds body without losing the dynamic feel.
4 Boost presence frequencies
The right EQ boost makes your vocal audible without raising the volume.
- Boost around 2-5 kHz for presence and cut-through
- Boost around 8-12 kHz for air and brightness
- Cut muddy lows below 100 Hz
