How to speed up or slow down a song
- Choose your track. Drop a WAV, MP3, M4A or FLAC file in the box, or try the demo.
- Move the Speed slider. Anything from 0.60× to 1.40× works. You hear it right away while the track plays.
- Download. You get a free WAV file, with the speed you picked in the file name.
What happens to the pitch?
This tool works like a record or a tape: faster also means higher, slower also means lower. That is exactly the sound of slowed and sped up versions. Here is what it means for a 120 BPM song:
| Speed | Pitch | 120 BPM becomes |
|---|---|---|
| 0.75× | 5 semitones lower | 90 BPM |
| 0.80× | almost 4 semitones lower | 96 BPM |
| 0.90× | almost 2 semitones lower | 108 BPM |
| 1.10× | just over 1.5 semitones higher | 132 BPM |
| 1.25× | almost 4 semitones higher | 150 BPM |
| 1.40× | almost 6 semitones higher | 168 BPM |
Want to change only the pitch and keep the tempo? Use the pitch shifter in Beat Lab, where you can also measure the tempo and key of your song. Want to change the tempo without the pitch moving? Then you need time stretching, for example in your DAW.
What can you use it for?
- A sped up version for TikTok or Reels. Around 1.20× to 1.30×. More tips in how to make a sped up song.
- A slowed version. Around 0.80× with some reverb. Read how to make slowed + reverb: the basics.
- Trying a beat at another tempo. Hear how your flow sounds on a slightly faster or slower version.
