How to Make a Slowed + Reverb Video for TikTok, Reels and YouTube
Share
A slowed or sped up version of your song works best as a video. On TikTok, Instagram Reels and YouTube Shorts people scroll past sound and picture at the same time. Here is how to make a video that fits the platform and makes people stay.
First: which format?
| Where | Format | Length |
|---|---|---|
| TikTok, Instagram Reels, YouTube Shorts | Vertical, 9:16 | 30 or 60 seconds |
| YouTube (regular video) | Horizontal, 16:9 | Whole track |
| Spotify Canvas | Vertical | A short loop, check Spotify's rules |
Not sure? Make a vertical and a horizontal version of the same section. Post the vertical one on TikTok, Reels and Shorts, and the horizontal one on YouTube.
Which section should you pick?
For short videos you rarely need the whole song. Pick the part that grabs people in the first seconds: usually your hook or your strongest line. For a slowed version the most emotional part often works best, for sped up the part with the most energy. More on choosing your section in promote your song with short videos.
How to make the video in a few clicks
In the slowed + reverb maker you can make a video of your slowed or sped up version straight away with Pro:
- Make your version. Drop your track in, pick Slowed + reverb or Sped up and set the speed and reverb. You can add effects like lo-fi, vinyl or 8D.
- Set the playback position to your starting point. The video starts where you are in the track. So click the start of your hook first.
- Pick the format. 9:16 for vertical (1080 by 1920 pixels) or 16:9 for horizontal (1920 by 1080 pixels).
- Pick the length. 30 seconds, 60 seconds or the whole track.
- Pick your cover. Your own artwork goes on screen, with a moving visualizer on the music.
- Click Make video and keep the tab open until the video is ready.
Your browser decides the file type. If it can record MP4, you get MP4. Otherwise it becomes WebM. For Instagram, Chrome or Safari then works better, as the tool itself points out.
Pro is a one-time purchase. It also gives you MP3 at 320 kbps and downloads with effects. See what is included on Slowed + Reverb Pro.
Prefer to edit it yourself?
That works too. Download your version as a free WAV from the slowed + reverb maker and put it under a clip or an image in your own video app. You get full freedom, it just takes more time.
Visuals that work
- Use your own cover. A recognisable image helps people find your song again later. Also check the cover art requirements if you use it for your release too.
- Put text on screen. Your best line, for example, or slowed + reverb in the corner. You add that in the app.
- For 8D: put headphones on screen. Otherwise people miss the effect.
- Make several versions. A different section, a different first line on screen. You never know in advance which one takes off.
Careful with other people's music
A video with a slowed version of someone else's song can be claimed or taken down. Use your own music or beats with a licence that allows it. Read can you upload slowed + reverb songs. Want others to be able to use your version as a sound? Release it officially through your distributor. How that works is in how to release a sped up version of your song.
