Logic Pro for Free: How the Trial Works Now (and What Comes After)
Share
Can you use Logic Pro for free? For a while, yes, but it works differently than it used to. For years you could try Logic Pro free for 90 days. That trial is gone. Since early 2026, you try Logic Pro through Apple Creator Studio, Apple's subscription that includes Logic Pro, Final Cut Pro and more. Here's how the trial works, what happens to your projects afterwards and how to get the most out of your free time.
Is Logic Pro free?
No, not permanently. According to Apple's Logic Pro page, you can get Logic Pro in two ways:
- As a one-time purchase on the Mac App Store.
- Through Apple Creator Studio, a monthly or yearly subscription.
Apple says Logic Pro has exactly the same features in both versions. The only way to try it for free is the Creator Studio trial. If you want to make music on your Mac for free, long term, GarageBand is your option. More on that below.
What happened to the 90-day trial?
Apple offered a free 90-day Logic Pro trial starting in 2020. It ended with the arrival of Apple Creator Studio. According to 9to5Mac, Apple also pulled the last regional links to the old trial in early February 2026. If a site still promises "Logic Pro free for 90 days", that information is out of date.
How the Apple Creator Studio free trial works
According to Apple:
- One month free for new subscribers.
- Three months free if you recently bought an eligible Mac or iPad. One offer per Apple Account and per family.
- Logic Pro for Mac and iPad are both included, along with Final Cut Pro and other apps.
- The subscription renews automatically after your trial. Apple says you can cancel any time up to at least a day before the renewal date.
- Students and educators can choose an education plan after verification.
Whether Creator Studio is available in your country depends on the availability of Apple Media Services, according to Apple.
Getting started, step by step
- Check your Mac. According to Apple, Logic Pro for Mac requires macOS 26.1 or later and a Mac with Apple silicon. So the current version won't run on a Mac with an Intel chip.
- Start the trial through Apple Creator Studio and download Logic Pro from the App Store.
- Set a reminder in your calendar a few days before your free month ends. That way you decide whether to keep going or cancel.
- Decide what you want to finish. A month goes fast. Pick one or two songs you really want to complete in that time.
What happens to your projects after the trial?
This is the most important part. According to Apple, your projects stay on your devices and you can copy or share them. But to edit a project, you need an active subscription.
Not continuing after your trial? Export everything as audio in time:
- your beat or song as a WAV;
- separate tracks (stems), so you can keep working in another program later;
- your vocals on their own, in case you want them mixed.
Here's exactly how: how to export a beat in Logic Pro.
New: the big Logic Pro update coming in November 2026
On October 27, 2026, Apple announced a big Logic Pro update that, according to Apple, arrives on the App Store in November. Among other things it brings an AI assistant that can set up a vocal track for you (in beta, U.S. English only for now), a redesigned browser that tags your sounds on its own, and a Stem Splitter that can now isolate individual drum parts. Apple calls it a free update for existing Apple Creator Studio subscribers.

How to get the most out of your free month
- Prep outside Logic. Pick your samples and reference tracks beforehand. Check their tempo and key with the free Beat Lab. Need chords? The chord progression generator gives you a MIDI file you can drag straight into Logic.
- Finish a beat first. Go from a loop to a complete beat. A good starting point is how to make a trap beat in Logic Pro.
- Record your voice. Logic Pro is great for recording and comparing takes. Read how to record rap vocals in Logic Pro.
- Mix in a fixed order. That saves you days of guessing. The free vocal chain cheat sheet shows the plugin order for Logic Pro and FL Studio.
- Export after every session. Don't wait for the last day. Bounce your song after each session and you'll never lose anything.
A free alternative on your Mac: GarageBand
GarageBand is free from Apple, for Mac, iPhone and iPad. It does less than Logic Pro, but you can make beats and record your voice in it just fine. A handy bonus: according to Apple, you can open GarageBand projects in Logic Pro later. So your work isn't lost when you switch.

On Windows?
Logic Pro is only available for Mac and iPad. On Windows, FL Studio is a logical choice. It has a free trial with no time limit: read FL Studio for free: how the trial works. Still not sure? See which DAW to pick as a beginner.
Watch out for "Logic Pro free download" sites
Search for Logic Pro free and you'll also find sites offering a "full version" or a crack. Skip them. You'd be running unlicensed software and you never know exactly what you're installing. The real trial comes straight from Apple, through the App Store.
Get a solid vocal in Logic Pro faster
Want to actually finish something during your trial instead of only learning to mix? The Logic Pro version of the Frenna Type Vocal Preset Bundle only uses plugins that come with Logic Pro, so you don't need any extra plugins. Frenna is a Dutch artist known for melodic rap with tuned, polished vocals, so think of a similar mix style, in the same lane as the melodic rap records of artists like Drake. It's a starting point that you tune to your own voice and recording, not a copy of any artist's sound and not an official artist product.
Check the Logic Pro version or browse all vocal presets.
