Autotune in BandLab: How to Use AutoPitch
Share
Recording in BandLab? Then you already have autotune at hand. In BandLab it's called AutoPitch. You turn it on on your vocal track and it works right away while you record. Here's how to set it up properly.
1. Find the key of your beat first
Autotune pulls your voice to notes from a scale. That scale has to match your beat, or it sounds off. According to BandLab, AutoPitch works best when the right key is selected. With AutoKey in BandLab you can have the key of your recordings detected. You can also check the key of your beat with the free Beat Lab. More in how to find the key of a song.
2. Turn on AutoPitch
- On your phone: tap AutoPitch, above the record button.
- On the website: click the AutoPitch tab at the bottom left and turn it on.
AutoPitch works on a voice or audio track.
3. Pick an effect
You choose from different vocal effects, split into categories. According to BandLab, every category has at least one free effect. Newer effects are often only for members with a Membership. For rap you usually start with a natural effect and only push it harder after that.
4. Set the key and the strength
Choose the key and scale of your beat. On your phone, tap Key in the top right. The Level knob sets how strong the effect is. Light settings smooth out small off-key bits. Heavier settings give you that well-known robotic sound.
5. Record
Hit the record button. AutoPitch works in real time, so you hear the effect while you record. That can add some delay, though. BandLab recommends using wired headphones. Bluetooth can add extra delay.
Tips
- Record as in tune as you can first. Autotune works better on a good take.
- Put AutoPitch on your lead and decide per track whether you want it on your doubles and ad-libs too.
- Sounds weird? Check first whether the key is right.
