How to Use Reverb on Vocals in Logic Pro

A practical listening guide
Reverb can add space to a vocal, but there is no single setting that works for every voice, recording or beat. Use it to support the track, then listen for whether the words and performance still come through.
Judge the reverb in the song, not by how impressive it sounds on its own.
NameOnTheBeat1Decide what the vocal needs
Before adding an effect, listen to the dry vocal with the instrumental. Ask whether it feels too close, too dry, or already busy enough. If the recording is hard to understand, more reverb may make that worse.
2Try a reverb and compare
For a simple insert, load ChromaVerb in an Audio FX slot on the vocal channel. Its Dry and Wet controls let you balance the original voice and effect. This route processes that channel directly.
Want several vocals to share one space? Try a send setup:
- Choose a bus from the vocal channel's Send menu.
- Find the aux receiving that bus and load the reverb there.
- For a reverb-only return, keep the dry voice on its original channel and avoid adding a second dry copy from the aux.
- Bring up the send gradually and check the aux output reaches your mix.
The send controls how much signal goes to the aux. The aux fader controls its return level. Apple explains this parallel routing. Check the existing routing first if you loaded a preset; you may already have a reverb aux.
- Start with less effect than you think you need.
- Compare with the effect bypassed at a similar loudness.
- Listen to the full beat and check whether phrase endings remain clear.
3Adjust by listening, not by a fixed recipe
Change one control at a time and keep the version that supports the song. The useful amount can change with the tempo, arrangement, delivery and recording, so a fixed decay or pre-delay value is not a reliable rule for every vocal.
Three labels worth knowing
Wet sets the effect level. Decay changes how the reverb fades. Predelay changes the gap before the early reflections. These are different jobs, not three versions of a volume knob. See Apple's ChromaVerb control reference.
For a practical phrase-by-phrase comparison, try the last-word check for rap vocals. If the vocal is already roomy with every effect bypassed, adding a different preset will not remove the room from the recording.
A vocal preset may provide a prepared starting point, but the amount of reverb still needs to suit your own take. Check each product page for its actual DAW and included effects.
