How it works
Enter the BPM of your beat and you'll see right away how long each note lasts in milliseconds. Don't know the BPM? Tap along on TAP, or check your file with the free Beat Lab. Click a value to copy it and paste it into your delay.
Why ms?
When your delay is set to the right time, the echo lands right on the beat. That sounds tighter than a random time. Does your delay have a sync mode? Then it follows your tempo by itself. No sync? Enter the ms from this table.
For rap vocals, 1/4 or 1/8 is a common place to start. Dotted and triplet give you a more playful rhythm. Try it and hear what fits.
The formula
One beat (a 1/4 note) lasts 60,000 divided by your BPM, in milliseconds.
- Dotted: the straight time times 1.5.
- Triplet: the straight time times 2/3.
- Hz: 1000 divided by the time in ms. Handy when you set an LFO in Hz.
Example at 140 BPM: a 1/4 note lasts 428.57 ms, a 1/8 note 214.29 ms, a dotted 1/8 321.43 ms and a triplet 1/8 142.86 ms.
